"Fair Food" lecture - Sept 23rd
Oran Hestermann gives "Fair Food" lecture on September 23rd
On Sunday, September 23rd, the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor will be sponsoring a talk, under the auspices of the congregation's Klein Lecture series, by Dr. Oran Hesterman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Food Network and author of the book, Fair Food. The talk will be begin at 4 PM and will be followed by a reception and book signing.
Dr. Hesterman and the Fair Food Network were critical to the founding of the Agrarian Adventure and have been wonderful supporters throughout our organization's history.
In the "Fair Food" lecture, Dr. Oran Hesterman goes beyond the admonition to "eat local" or "eat organic" and presents an inspiring program to change not only what we eat, but how our food is grown, packaged, delivered, and sold. Believing that we can't fix our broken food system one problem at a time, Dr. Hesterman shows how we redesign that system as a whole. He puts forth a vision of what our food system should look like so that it is healthy for our families, healthy for our environment, and healthy for our communities.
Along the way, Dr. Hesterman introduces audiences to people and organizations across the country who are already doing this work in a number of creative ways, from bringing fresh food to inner cities to fighting for farm workers' rights to putting cows back in pastures. He also provides information for those who want to get more involved, encouraging people to grow from conscious consumer to engaged citizen.
Tickets for this event are $10.00 and will be available at the door. The First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor is located at 4001 Ann Arbor-Saline Road.
